Job Searching During the Summer
Summer Job Search
While others are slowing down for the warm weather months, summer is actually a great time to kick your job search into high gear.
The old theory that summertime is the worst time to look for a job, doesn’t hold up in today’s job market.
Right now, finding a good new employee is one of human resources biggest challenges and companies just cannot afford to take the summer off from recruiting.
As I’ve noted in previous blogs about searching around the winter holidays, there are benefits to searching when others are not:
There is Less Competition
Everyone thinks hiring has slowed down for the summer, so when you do apply, your resume will float to the surface quickly and easily with less for the hiring manager to have to look through to find you.
Easy to Take Time off to Interview
Everyone sort of expects you to be taking time off during the summer. So when an opportunity to interview comes up, it won’t seem odd that you are asking for a day off.
Summer Networking
The same as with taking time off for an interview, if you want to get together and network with some of your contacts, they will have an easier time getting time off to meet with you.
Also, there are so many opportunities to network with friends and family, it’s an excellent chance to get your message out to people you might otherwise not see on a regular basis.
Summer is a great time for the serious job seeker to find that perfect new opportunity. Enjoy the weather and the summertime activities but remember your job search is still important and keep at it.
